Afghanistan XI's new one-day and Twenty20 skipper Hamid Hassan will face his first test in his new role very soon. Hassan, a right-arm fast bowler, will lead his side to United Arab Emirates to play two one-dayers against a Kenya XI and Canada XI at Sharjah in February.

Both Kenya XI and Canada XI will be based in Dubai as part of its build-up to the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The games will act as a warm-up for Kenya XI and Canada XI for The Cup That Counts.

"It's a great opportunity for Afghanistan XI to keep active. It's just a shame that they're helping Canada XI and Kenya XI in their preparations for the World Cup, when they came so close to being there themselves," Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Development Officer for Afghanistan Iqbal Sikander was quoted as saying on the ACC website.

"I think they'll really be feeling that and will be very keen to show Canada XI and Kenya XI and everyone else that Afghanistan XI on current form could play in the World Cup too," added Sikander.

Also on tour will be Afghanistan's A side which is scheduled to play a UAE XI in a series of two Twenty20 matches, two two-day matches and three one-dayers. The Afghanistan A team coached by Taj Malik will take on the UAE XI to be coached by former Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan.

"Our U-19 team will also play two games against Afghanistan A. It'll be a great preparation for the boys before they head off for the ACC U19 in Bangkok," Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Administrator Mazhar Khan was quoted as saying on the ACC's official website.
